Unveiling Orozco 

Spatial Strategy, Parsons School of Design, 2025

Unveiling Orozco's Room features a reproduction of José Clemente Orozco's fresco Call to Revolution and Table of Universal Brotherhood (The New School Mural Cycle), 1930-1931. Installing the murals in our lounge, we emulate the original context, environment, and spirit of the artwork as a communal place to reflect, converse, be inspired, and ask questions. Since the mural's unveiling in 1931, the revolutionary and political content has been controversial among students, university leadership, visiting artists, and alumni.

By reimagining the mural as a tapestry in an accessible space, we hope to encourage reflection on histories of repression, and representation, the role of social change in academic settings, and how we can confront themes of resistance and collective responsibility through art on our own campus. Currently, there is a major conservation and preservation project underway, making the mural temporarily closed to visitors.

Unveiling Orozco's Room is a reminder of its ghostly presence.
